Gergeti Trinity Church is an amazing architectural complex located in Kazbegi municipality. It is situated at 2200 meters above the sea level. Unfortunately the exact data of the church construction is unknown, although according to some historic sources and its architectural style, it must have been created in XIV century. We also do not have an information about its builders and the process of construction.
The name of the church – Gergeti, comes from the village where it is located. It is important to mention that “in times of danger” precious relics from Mtskheta, including the cross of St. Nino were kept in Gergeti Trinity church. The location of the church is overwhelming. Together with an amazing architecture and outstanding landscapes, Gergeti represents a symbol of Georgia. Out of the church you can see the Mkinvartsveri, which is the third-highest peak in Georgia and it creates such a gorgeous view, that it is impossible to explain.
Ilia II the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia established the day of Gergeti Trinity, which is now celebrated on July 16.
