Rkoni

12.03.2018

Rkoni Monastery Complex is located on the place of the village ruins of Rkoni and represents one of the most important monuments of the Georgian architecture.

The Rkoni complex was created over the centuries and changed many times. There are mainly allocated three layers of construction: the second quarter of the 7th century, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries, and the 17th or 18th centuries, which should correspond to the periods of monastery life. The territory of the complex is divided into two sites. There are places of worship at one site, and the living and utility rooms - at the other. The Rkoni complex includes: the church of Virgin Mary, gates, chapel, refectory, tower, belfry, church of the Baptist and bridge.

If you are interested in the Georgian architecture, then we definitely recommend visiting Rkoni. Besides the monastery complex this place stands out by the beautiful nature, forest, fields. Here you will feel a sense of calm as today the village ruins of Rkoni is sparsely populated, respectively here you will be able to see only the beautiful forest, fields and meadows and the monastery complex.

If you decide to visit Rkoni, please be advised that various tours are often organized in this direction after opening of hiking season (approximately from the middle of April).
